Accreditation & Quality Improvement

2009-10 Important Year for MCTC!

Higher Learning Commission Mark of Affiliation

MCTC is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, North LaSalle St. Suite 2400, Chicago, IL 60602-2504; Phone: 800-621-7440 / 312-263-0456.

MCTC participates in the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) of the Higher Learning Commission which emphasizes two purposes for accreditation: assuring quality and stimulating improvement. AQIP infuses the principles of continuous quality improvement and systems thinking into the academic culture.

MCTC is scheduled for reaffirmation of accreditation in 2009-2010. From March 25 to 27, 2009, a two member team from the Higher Learning Commission visited MCTC for a Quality Check-Up Visit. The resulting positive Quality Check-Up Report outlines the findings of the team. Subsequently, MCTC has submitted a Quality Highlights Report outlining the most significant improvements, changes and results since the March visit.

Prior to the visit, a Federal Compliance Materials Packet was prepared to report on the college's compliance with federal laws and regulations of the United States Department of Education.  Additionally, MCTC prepared a Quality Program Summary outlining the institution's continuous quality improvement journey.

MCTC Systems Portfolio

AQIP expects each institution to use the nine AQIP categories to structure its Systems Portfolio, an organizational resource that describes key institutional systems and their performance results. The categories provide a framework that colleges and universities can use to examine their key processes to make sure they are investing energy and resources in ways that will help achieve their goals. The nine categories are:

       1. Helping Students Learn
       2. Accomplishing Other Distinctive Objectives
       3. Understanding Students' and Other Stakeholders' Needs
       4. Valuing People
       5. Leading and Communicating
    6. Supporting Institutional Operations
    7. Measuring Effectiveness
    8. Planning Continuous Improvement
    9. Building Collaborative Relationships

MCTC submitted its Systems Portfolio in June 2007 and an appraisal from the Higher Learning Commission was received in 2008. Revisions and improvements to the portfolio are currently ongoing. MCTC will be submitting a new portfolio in 2011.

MCTC Action Projects

Action Projects are designed to be the kickoff for a continuous series of projects with the successfully completed projects accumulating into a visible record of the institution’s quality improvement activities over time. MCTC is expected to have at least three action projects in progress at all times. For more information on Action Projects, visit the AQIP website.

The following reports provide the most recent update of each project and comments from AQIP reviewers:
